POSITION: Non-Ferrous Green Sand Foundry Manufacturing Engineer
JOB STATUS: Exempt
PRIMARY PURPOSE: A hands-on shop floor-based engineering role. Oversee and troubleshoot daily foundry processes
while pursuing continuous improvement in areas such as scrap reduction and productivity increases while minimizing cost.
Processes will include, but not be limited to, the following areas: making cores and molds; charging, operating, and tapping
furnaces; pouring molten metal into molds; and sawing, grinding, and finishing castings.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Through the use of lean engineering tools, design and optimize manufacturing processes for the improvement of
existing products and the introduction of new ones.
Develop, implement and manage scrap reduction initiatives.
Create new standard work instructions and documentation as process changes dictate.
Examines materials and products at various stages of processing to ensure they conform to specifications.
Observes machines and equipment for malfunction and works in tandem with maintenance team to troubleshoot
Assist in developing and implementing cost reduction initiatives through continuous improvement (kaizen) events
Participate in, and at times, lead capital improvement projects.
Assist in implementing and updating Value Stream Maps.
Keep up to date with current and developing trends at national and international level in the foundry industry.
BS Degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a foundry floor-support role.
Continuous improvement and lean experience in a foundry environment.
Understanding of green sand process and controls.
Experience with the maintenance of foundry controls, monitors and foundry processes.
Knowledge of shell core processes and pattern shops
Knowledge of tooling
Previous experience in a secondary casting or machining experience.
Understanding of the non-ferrous melting process.
Understanding of aluminum, brass and bronze alloys.
